Online searches for licensing records can be performed by profession, name, zip code, or license number. The Virginia Department of Professional and Occupation Regulation manages records for over 30 professions through 19 different boards. Professional licenses in Virginia are generally regulated by a board which governs the particular profession. Other records, such as certificates of good standing or certificates of fact, can be obtained by visiting the SCC Office of the Clerk in person or through written requests. Annual reports filed by businesses can also be obtained online by searching by the business identification number. The information produced includes full business name and status. An online searchable database is available whereby business record searches can be performed by business name or identification number. Corporations, limited liability companies, limited liability partnerships, and other business entities all file documents through the SCC Office of the Clerk. The State Corporation Commission (SCC) Office of the Clerk is responsible for business and corporate records.
